Exablox Presents Low Cost On-premises Enterprise Scale-out Storage
Introducing inline compression to OneBlox software portfolio
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on October 2, 2015 at 3:21 pmExablox Corp. announced inline compression enabling customers to deploy on-premises scale-out storage for less than $0.10/GB for the life of the product.

With the introduction of inline compression, complementing existing inline deduplication, OneBlox 4312 improves storage utilization and enables typical data reduction ratios of 6:1 (*). These features, combined with OneBlox’s CDP, remote replication and cloud-based management provide a flexible storage solution affordable to any enterprise.
The cost savings and effective capacity improvements are the result of company’s innovative inline data reduction, including deduplication and compression, boosting the effective storage capacity of the OneBlox Ring to more than 1.3 PB utilizing 8TB drives. The company was the first storage vendor to support HGST, Inc.‘s Ultrastar Helium 8TB drives in Q1 2015 and continues to lead the industry by supporting more than 50 different types of HDDs ranging from 1TB to 8TB. Taking into account typical data reduction ratios of 6:1, OneBlox effective storage pricing is $0.10/GB for the life of the product. This is approximately 10% the cost of cloud storage rental fees offered by leading cloud storage vendors, with typical prices ranging from $1.06/GB to $1.09/GB for 36 months (**).
In addition to the OneBlox cost advantages, company’s approach to scale-out storage offers more simplicity, security and agility vs. leading cloud vendors by employing a similar object-based, scale-out architecture. However, by integrating with applications through common NFS and SMB file systems, customers can now enjoy the benefits of a flexible cloud storage infrastructure in their own data center and purchase storage only when necessary and not be saddled with the economic burden of purchasing storage 24 to 36 months in advance.
“Exablox believes that companies should not be forced into accepting a one-size-fits-all model.” said Douglas Brockett, CEO, Exablox. “Combining enterprise features with pay-as-you grow economics that beat cloud storage by an order of magnitude, Exablox is providing its customers with the best of both worlds.“
(*) The typical data reduction ratio estimate is based on OneSystem global reporting of company’s customers’ data reduction
(**) The storage rental fee estimates assume standard data redundancy, utilization, zero overages and zero additional networking charges.
