Intradyn Introduces Redaction Technology to Balance Full Disclosure With Security
To help organizations fulfill FOIA requests
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on February 19, 2015 at 2:47 pmIntradyn,Inc. introduced an enhancement to their software, hardware and cloud platforms to streamline redaction of sensitive information from whole batches of emails.
This provides an productivity boost for enterprises, organizations and agencies that are required to release email records for reasons such as Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests or eDiscovery.
Security vs. transparency
The conflict between security and transparency has always been thorny. In 2014, there were many high profile cases in which sensitive data was stolen, such as the release of private emails from Sony Pictures. Emails have increasingly been used as pivotal evidence in courtroom dramas, and the public is demanding increased transparency in government after the IRS was unable to produce many years’ worth of potentially criminal emails.
Intradyn has spent over a decade resolving these conflicts using secure cloud email archiving, on-premise hardware, rapid indexing software and virtual appliances. Their next generation Redaction Tool assures that sensitive or privileged information can be redacted more efficiently for legal or security purposes before any data is printed or forwarded to the requesting agency. Entire sets of emails can be tagged to redact the critical information.
Azam Qureshi, president and CTO, Intradyn, outlined the evolution of this solution: “This was a simple case of a technology emerging because people desperately needed it, and there was nothing like it on the market. In the previous year, we created enhanced tools for printing and exporting requested emails into PDF. During user trials, it became clear that a rapid Redaction Tool was needed as a natural progression of the technology. Customers who beta tested our Redaction Tool gave us some truly wonderful feedback on how much easier it has made their lives, as well as some workflow suggestions, which we have already incorporated into the latest release.“
Risk management
Beyond Sony’s damaging email debacle and the missing emails at the IRS, the past year has proven disastrous for security-related issues. Intradyn, made security its top priority. Within 24 hours after the Heartbleed and Shellshock hacks were reported by the press, Intradyn had completed testing and verified that their users had zero vulnerability issues. In an ongoing effort, they released the latest version of OpenSSL, along with other encryption software. Any future attacks can be traced, as all logins to their software are kept in an audit log for security.
Reduction of risk, rather than spending time managing risk, has been Intradyn’s philosophy from the very beginning. They have found that the best way to achieve risk reduction is to provide users with business intelligence from the seemingly insurmountable accumulation of information in their own emails. Last year, Intradyn introduced Messaging Intelligence technology through technology partnership with Trustsphere, which allows users to visualize the participants in email conversations.
Problems of scalability
Another issue that makes email archive management so challenging is the logarithmic acceleration of email storage requirements as organizations scale up. Fortunately, simplification of scalability was integral to Intradyn’s market strategy. Their de-duplication and compression technology has reduced storage space requirements by 70%.
Horizontal Scaling, another feature the company recently introduced, allows users to auto-add disk space in the virtual environment (for both VMWare and Hyper-V) when space becomes tight. Customers don’t have to provision extra disk space if they don’t intend to use it for the next two to three years. This flexibility has been a very popular feature among growing organizations because they don’t have to purchase larger licenses upfront and pay as their usage increases.
In the near future, Intradyn plans to introduce more features like Horizontal Scaling, Messaging Intelligence and the Redaction Tool. Streamlining workflow for better productivity and clear oversight are the most critical components to reducing risk while complying with legal and regulatory demands.
