NetJapan Adding Standby Switchover Solution for Windows Physical and Virtual Infrastructure

Offers virtualized replicas of source physical and VMs for switchover recovery

NetJapan Ltd, announces vStandby, a standby availability switchover solution that offers virtualized replicas of source physical and VMs for switchover recovery in the event of a system failure or disaster.

It can be installed next to pre-existing backup and DR software solutions, independent of the brand being used (ex: Acronis, Symantec, Veeam etc). It creates a virtual standby machine on VMware ESX/ESXi hosts from existing physical or VMs. vStandby VMs can be started at any time from specific snapshots created from source machines.

vStandby is a product that offers an affordable switchover standby solution, giving users HA without the cost. It is available for physical and virtual installations of Windows Server and Desktop OSs.

Background
Traditional physical to virtual approaches involve conversion of an entire disk from a physical disk to a virtual disk, followed by attaching the virtual disk to the VM so that operations could be transferred from the physical to the virtual environment. In addition, traditional physical to virtual conversion involves a significant increase in storage demands and time; requiring twice as much storage space for the disk image files and VMDK files, and significant time to perform those conversions.

vStandby eliminates resource and time problems with its standby availability solution offering virtualized replication of a physical or virtual source machine to a virtual standby machine that provides switchover recovery when the source machine fails. The vStandby VM is available from the latest incremental physical to virtual snapshot made prior to the failure of the source machine. These scheduled incremental physical to virtual snapshots of the source machines are automatically taken at predefined intervals and added to the standby VMs datastore. vStandby allows for the deployment of an affordable, standby availability switchover solution that requires limited storage space while ensuring system operations.

Features:

  • Create Standby Availability VMs
It creates virtualized replicas of source machines directly into the VMWare ESXi hypervisor datastore.
  • Scheduled Incremental Physical to Virtual Snapshots
Using NetJapan’s incremental P2V technology, recurring incremental snapshots of the source machine can be scheduled to ensure that a predetermined level of operational performance and availability will be met.
  • Immediate Switchover Recoverability
Should a source machine fail, the standby VM can start up from a selected snapshot, providing immediate switchover recovery to ensure BC with minimal downtime.
  • ESXi free license support
It supports VMware ESXi free license version. The standby VMDK is as current as the latest ongoing incremental P2V update taken from the source machine.
  • Restore vStandby VM back to a Physical Machine
A vStandby VM including all the changes made while in operation can be restored back to the repaired source physical machine.
  • Physical to Virtual Migration Support for Windows
Use vStandby to seamlessly migrate a Windows Server to an ESXi virtual environment (Windows Server 2003 or newer).

vStandby 5.0 software and support are available in Europe, AsiaPac and North America. NetJapan distributes it through authorized resellers, system integrators, business partners, and distributors.
