Avere FXT Edge Filers Now FIPS 140-2 Compliant
For data security
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on January 15, 2015 at 3:00 pmAvere Systems, Inc. announced that its FXT Edge Filers are compliant with Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140-2.
FIPS is a US federal government computer security standard, used by many agencies that deal with sensitive but unclassified (SBU) information. Many regulated industries also leverage FIPS encryption standards, including healthcare and financial services.
FXT Edge Filers are simple to install and manage, provide NAS functionality (including NFS and SMB/CIFS), and cluster to deliver HA, scalable performance and capacity. They provide speeds as both hardware- and software-only solutions. Customers across industries, including media and entertainment, oil, gas, and life sciences use Avere’s hybrid cloud storage solutions.
FXT Edge Filers leverage the OpenSSL FIPS Object Module for data and network encryption. Avere sponsored the effort with the OpenSSL Project’s core development team to ensure that its support of FreeBSD is FIPS 140-2 Level 1 compliant. Not only does this ensure federal security compliance of all Avere products moving forward, but any organization that wants to use FIPS-validated FreeBSD 9.2 OpenSSL software is free to do so.
“We recognize the critical importance of data security, especially with the recent increase in cyber attacks against both government agencies and private businesses,” says Scott Jeschonek, director of product management, Avere. “Assuring 140-2 compliance by sponsoring OpenSSL’s FIPS module validation provides assurance to our customers that Avere is committed to data security of the highest standards.“
“With FIPS validation, government agencies of all types are now able to leverage our hybrid cloud storage solution,” said Ron Bianchini, CEO and co-founder, Avere. “We’re excited to help these organizations take advantage of cloud computing without significant changes to their infrastructure.“
