Synology DiskStation DS115j: One-Bay NAS Serving Private Cloud and NVR

“With DS115j, home users can now enjoy the rich data sharing and multimedia streaming features offered by Synology at an entry-level price point,” said Nicole Lin, product manager, Synology.
It delivers read speeds at 103MB/s in a Windows environment, a 28% increase compared to its predecessor. With the built-in FPU CPU, it enhances the performance of multimedia applications, such as speeding up thumbnail generation of photos, and thus ensures optimal multimedia experiences.
Tailor-made for the home environment, it consumes 3.85 watts when HDDs enter hibernation mode, and below 13 watts under full operation. Furthermore, its noise dampening design makes it quiet compared to PC counterparts, minimizing the noise level to 18.1dB. It also serves as a NVR to leverage surveillance station. It comes with two free IP camera licenses and supports up to 5 cameras, making it a surveillance solution for homes and SOHOs.
It runs on DSM 5.0, an OS that provides a host of applications to bring better productivity at work and offer a multimedia experience. The company was voted as PCMag Business Choice Award 2013 winner‘and received the highest rating in every element of the survey, including reliability, overall satisfaction, value, and likelihood to recommend.
