Zimbra Acquires Mezeo

For secure file sync and share, cloud storage

Zimbra, Inc., in unified collaboration software, announced its acquisition of Mezeo Software Corp., a software company that provides secure file sharing and cloud storage capabilities for service providers, governments and companies worldwide.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

With Mezeo’s technology portfolio, which includes patents that cover aspects of storage efficiency and file security, Zimbra  will expand its unified collaboration suite with file-sync-and-share, reflecting its commitment to secure and private collaboration.

Secure file-sync-and-share is critical for today’s users, and it’s one of the capabilities Zimbra customers request most often,” said Patrick Brandt, CEO, Zimbra. “With the acquisition of Mezeo, we are expanding our product offering to now include user-friendly file-sync-and-share, while also enabling complete control over data, which provides tremendous value to our customers and partners worldwide.

According to Forrester, “With consumerization driving employees to bring personal smartphones and tablets to work, employees’ need to synchronize files grew from a whisper to a scream over the past few years. Twenty-one percent of global information workers use file sync solutions. The scream will grow louder as the number of tablets will triple to 905 million by 2017 to join the billions of computers and smartphones used for work.” (Forrester Research, Inc. MezeoFile, a file-sync-and-share application, and MezeoCloud, an on-premise cloud storage platform, enable IT professionals to meet security and compliance requirements while offering end users an intuitive user experience that is comparable to easy-to-use consumer file sharing technology. For service providers, Mezeo’s white label offering allows for integration into existing services to simplify delivery and speed time-to-market. Mezeo’s employees, who have vast experience in developing software and managing relationships with services providers, will join the Zimbra team.

John Eastman, CTO, Mezeo, said: “Today’s service providers demand capabilities that are secure and private, but which also integrate into existing systems, applications and processes. That’s why we built our solutions to fight loss of control and business data leaks. Our features and benefits complement Zimbra’s approach to security and privacy, and together we will enable Zimbra’s customers and partners to launch new file-sync-and-share functionality quickly and securely.”

Under the Zimbra brand, Mezeo software will continue to be made available on premise and in the cloud through the company’s global network of service providers.

Zimbra is privately held with corporate headquarters in Frisco, TX and offices in San Mateo, CA, London, UK, Tokyo, Japan, Singapore and Pune, India.
