Plextor Expands M6e Range With M.2 Form Factor PCIe SSD
80x22mm, up to 512GB (€374)
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on June 30, 2014 at 2:48 pmPlextor, a brand owned by Shinano Kenshi of Japan, launches the M6e M.2 PCIe Gen2 x2 SSD, a 2280 (80x22mm), M.2 PCIe form factor SSD designed to deliver performance storage to gaming notebooks and the new generation of M.2-compatible motherboards.
The M6e M.2 PCIe is the drive at the heart of Plextor’s PCIe gaming SSD. With its release as a stand-alone product, consumers with M.2 PCIe slots gain access to a fast SSD with maximum sequential read speeds of 770MB/s and sequential write speeds of 625MB/s. Random 4k read speeds reach 105K, and random write speeds attain 100K, IO/s. The M6e range gives gamers RAID-like performance without the space requirements or inconvenience of setting up a RAID array.
Packed into the M6e M.2 PCIe is a multi-core Marvell PCIe 9183 controller, a fast onboard DDR DRAM cache, and Toshiba Toggle NAND flash memory, with Plextor’s own in-house produced custom firmware.
The M6e M.2’s performance means that it is able to maximize the notebook gaming experience by reducing game starting times and keeping level loading times to a minimum. With the release of Intel’s new chipset, a number of motherboards will have PCIe M.2 slots. Installing a Plextor M6e M.2 in this slot provides users with a tidy, fast storage option that bypasses the 6Gbp/s limit of the SATA Rev 3.0 interface and takes up minimal valuable case space.
Along with the M6e M.2 PCIe Gen2 x2 SSD, Plextor will also launch three M.2 SATA SSDs: the M6G 2280 (80x22mm), M6G 2260 (60x22mm) and M6G 2242 (42x22mm). This range of M.2 options allows users to experience the performance and reliability of Plextor SSDs. This range of M.2 options allows users with both PCIe and SATA M.2 slots to experience the performance and reliability of Plextor SSDs
A 5-year warranty, Plextor’s Zero-Failure Zero-Error mass testing standard resulting in a MTBF calculated at 2.4 million hours, and testing/burning-in of every individual unit ensures reliability and stability.
“With the launch of the M6e M.2 PCIe we are expanding on the unprecedented success of the existing M6e HHHL PCIe. Now users of the fastest gaming notebooks and high power workstations will get access to the incredible performance of the M6e, and gain the benefits that only an ultra-fast, highly optimized Plextor M6e SSD can offer,” said sales manager Lear Wu.
The M6e M.2 will be available through most e-tailers like OC UK, Scan, and Dabs and will come in 128GB (MSRP: £92.99 or €105 incl VAT), 256GB (MSRP: £169.99 or €195 incl VAT, and 512GB (MSRP: £199.99 or €374 incl VAT) capacities.
The M6e is distributed in the UK by CMS Distribution and M2M, and in France by Asialand, Acadia, ECP, and NEO.
