Newforma Project Center Indexes Data Hosted by Nasuni Enterprise Storage Service
To make cloud-stored project information readily accessible for PIM workflows
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on June 30, 2014 at 2:45 pmNewforma, Inc., a project information management (PIM) software company integrating people and processes to transform building and infrastructure project delivery, and Nasuni Corp., a provider of enterprise storage services to global organizations, announced customer validation of their systems’ integration.
Global interdisciplinary design firm Perkins+Will, Inc. is using Nasuni’s enterprise storage as a service to host data generated by its staff of 1,600 in 25 locations worldwide – more than 100TB of project information. Newforma Project Center servers index the contents of the Nasuni service to make project information readily accessible via the Newforma search function and other PIM workflows.
Perkins+Will’s CIO Murali Selvaraj said the deduplication backup software the firm had been using was adding to overhead without improving performance. He needed to find an alternative approach that cost-effectively addressed the firm’s rapidly growing storage and data protection needs.
“We chose Nasuni’s storage as a service after considering many storage alternatives,” Selvaraj said. “By adding a Nasuni filer to each site we are able to expand storage with ease and recover data quickly if disaster strikes. We are glad Newforma’s architecture allows us to continue to index the Nasuni system with no changes to our workflow and no additional training for our design professionals.”
Nasuni CEO Andrés Rodriguez said the Newforma integration is a key component of the company’s focus on architecture and engineering firms.
“Building and infrastructure projects consume massive amounts of storage,” Rodriguez said. “The number of teams who work on files across multiple offices continues to grow as firms go to where their clients need them to be. There is increasing demand for a scalable global file system that enables worldwide collaboration. The Nasuni Service solves storage, data protection, and global data access problems at a price that’s often less than the cost of backup alone.”
Newforma co-founder and EVP of development Dave Plunkett said the Newforma-Nasuni integration validates its policy of working with project information in all storage environments.
“From the outset, customers told us they needed our project information management systems to work in many different technology environments,” Plunkett said. “Six years ago, all of our customers were storing their data locally. As more and more move storage to the cloud, we’re right there with them.”
