Norwegian Purity IT Bought 1PB Coraid EtherDrive
For local backup and cloud storage SkyBackup service
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on July 4, 2014 at 2:45 pmCoraid, Inc. announced that Purity IT AS, a Norwegian storage systems integrator specializing in storage, backup, DR and cloud storage, chose Coraid’s EtherDrive platform to power its SkyBackup service.
SkyBackup is a Backup-as-a-Service (BaaS) offering that is a hybrid of local backup and cloud storage. Purity is known for delivering customized solutions tailored for midsize to enterprise clients across multiple verticals. To continue to provide that same level of service in the competitive cloud backup space, the company needed a storage solution that would offer a differentiated product at a competitive price. Purity decided on Coraid for its ideal mix of performance, scalability, flexibility and administrative simplicity. Uptake of the new service offering has been swift and positive, with Purity needing to scale from 10TB to 1PB in the first year alone.
“Launching SkyBackup was a big risk for us. We knew we had one shot at the market, and we would have to come out with a service offering that was innovative and solid, but also competitively priced,” said Lars Olav Habberstad, CEO, Purity. “Luckily for us, we found that Coraid understood how our business worked. As a technology partner, Coraid has been able to give us storage technology that is scalable, flexible and administratively efficient enough to get us successfully out of the starting gate with SkyBackup.“
Purity wanted SkyBackup to offer dynamic scalability that enables clients to spin backup resources up or down as needed. The system also needed to handle de-duplication to free up storage capacity and ensure quick recovery. The selected storage technology had to do all this without sacrificing performance. Finally, client-side administration needed to provide access to information about total usage while enabling upgrades, creation of groups, and definition of rules and requirements for backup.
The Coraid platform gave the network a level of R/W speed that it needed to store rich media on the system without causing slow streaming and downloading rates. Now, with over a petabyte of Coraid storage in place, Purity has found Coraid to be a suitable partner both in terms of its solution and in terms of the support the company receives for design, implementation, and continued growth of its environment.
