Health Plan Provider AvMed Selects X-IO
Cutting service calls "by 98%"
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on June 19, 2014 at 2:54 pmX-IO Technologies (Xiotech Corporation) announced that Florida-based health plan provider AvMed, Inc. has selected its Intelligent Storage Element (ISE) to underpin its VDI environment.
The X-IO solution has already improved the performance of the AvMed infrastructure and has cut service calls by 98%.
AvMed’s legacy storage infrastructure was struggling to support its vSphere VDI environment as increasing numbers of users were added to the system, causing severe performance degradation. Consultants in the field reported slow VDI performance, frozen desktops, and long login delays, generating an average of 50 support calls per week.
The company needed to implement a performance, resilient, enterprise-grade solution. After reviewing a number of options on the market, AvMed deployed ISE solution.
It selected ISE 700 Series hybrid and ISE 200 Series storage systems for its blend of price, performance, and capacity. The company implemented two ISE 730 hybrid storage systems for its VDI environment and two ISE 240 storage systems for its SQL Server databases.
Since moving to the X-IO solution, AvMed is down to one support call per week – a total reduction of 98% – and has cut login times by more than 90%.
“X-IO offered a system that exceeded our VDI performance requirements, used enterprise grade components, and took just a few hours to get completely deployed,” said Nelson Remy, IT infrastructure manager, AvMed. “Some of our most critical virtual desktops, which also drive the most performance demand, were taking up to two minutes from login to desktop presentation on our existing enterprise SAN. With X-IO, it takes 10 sec.“
AvMed has built a reputation for its network of doctors, specialists, and hospitals, as well as for its service. Maintaining a finely tuned VDI environment is essential to AvMed as it provides staff with critical classroom training and enables workers in the field to access business applications.
Gavin McLaughlin, VP, WW marketing, X-IO, said: “For AvMed it’s critical that the company’s VDI environment provides important staff with access to training in their classrooms and that workers in the field can use applications quickly and securely while keeping private information in the data centre. At X-IO, we have a proven track record of delivering to our customers consistently reliable, high-performance solutions that stand up to the demands of a VDI environment time after time. We are delighted to be working with AvMed to help deliver its invaluable services to the people of Florida.“
