General Electric Assigned Two Patents

Optical storage media, enterprise environment disk encryption

Optical storage media
General Electric Company
, Niskayuna, NY, has been assigned a patent (8,703,388) developed by ten co-inventors for an “optical storage media.”

The co-inventors are Arunkumar Natarajan, Niskayuna, NY, Riffard Pierre Jean-Gilles, Albany, NY, Kwok Pong Chan, Troy, NY, Robert James Perry, Niskayuna, NY, Victor Petrovich Ostroverkhov, Ballston Lake, NY, Evgenia Mikhailovna Kim, Ballston Lake, NY, Julia Lam Lee, Niskayuna, NY, Eugene Pauling Boden, Scotia, NY, Patrick Joseph McCloskey, Watervliet, NY, and Brian Lee Lawrence, Cincinnati, OH.

The abstract of the patent published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office states: “Optical data storage media for bit-wise recording of a microhologram using an incident radiation at a wavelength of about 405 nm are provided. The optical storage medium includes (a) a non-photopolymer polymer matrix; (b) a non-linear sensitizer comprising a phenylethynyl platinum complex, wherein the non-linear sensitizer is capable of triplet-triplet energy transfer from an upper triplet state (T.sub.n) of the non-linear sensitizer to a lower triplet state (T.sub.1) of a reactant, wherein “n” is an integer greater than 1; and (c) a reactant capable of undergoing a chemical change upon the triplet-triplet energy transfer from the non-linear sensitizer, thereby causing a refractive index change in the medium to record the microhologram.”

The patent application was filed on Feb. 27, 2012 (13/405,681).

Enterprise environment disk encryption
General Electric, Schenectady, New York, has been assigned a patent (8,732,456) developed by Ryan Brumback, Doug Ralph Witter, Cincinnati, OH, and Thomas DeBoever, Van Buren Township, MI, for an “enterprise environment disk encryption.

The abstract of the patent published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office states: “A method for deploying a disk encryption password to a client computer includes installing a disk encryption agent on a client computer, where the agent communicates with an enterprise encryption service that encrypts a disk password using a public key generated at the client computer. The encrypted disk password is transmitted to the client computer where it is set as the current disk password. A system to deploy a disk encryption password includes one or more client computers and at least one server having a control processor configured to support operation of an enterprise encryption service. The encryption service is configured to install a disk encryption agent on a client computer and generate an encrypted disk password using a public key generated by the client computer. An enterprise encryption database in communication with the enterprise encryption service stores the disk password.”

The patent application was filed on April 13, 2012 (13/446,714).
