Englewood Hospital and Medical Center Chooses DataCore
To enhance patient care while cutting costs
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on May 23, 2014 at 2:52 pmDataCore Software Corporation, in software-defined storage, announced that Englewood Hospital and Medical Center (EHMC), hospital in Englewood, NJ, has implemented its SANsymphony-V platform to help provide the highest level of patient care.
Through a software-defined storage architecture powered by DataCore, the Medical Center has increased application performance, reduced downtime and maximized existing storage capacity, all while reducing storage-related costs.
“We are a 24/7 operation and while products are important, our main priority is providing safe, high-quality, efficient care to the patients we serve,” said Ronald Fuschillo, CIO, EHMC. “As a state-of-the-art healthcare facility, there are greater expectations and zero tolerance for error – whether in IT or the OR (operating room). The capabilities of DataCore SANsymphony-V not only align with our uncompromising standards, but allow us to continue to deliver patient care seamlessly without interruption, which is critical to our mission.“
EHMC is renowned for its cardiac, vascular and bloodless surgery programs. The Medical Center earned its reputation through a range of advanced clinical programs, treatments and diagnostic services. It needed reliable and efficient infrastructural upkeep to support its commitment of providing safe, quality and compassionate care to the community.
“Over the next four years, Englewood Hospital and Medical Center projected a 10X data growth, and as a result, storage became the number one priority for the hospital’s IT team,” said Steve Houck, COO, DataCore. “Not only is DataCore designed to help organizations maximize their existing storage investments, the software is heterogeneous in nature, meaning any type of storage from any vendor can easily be added to the storage architecture.“
All of EHMC’s critical data is now stored on SANsymphony-V platform, including the hospital’s large PACS system, Active Directory, Exchange, Oracle PeopleSoft and SQL Servers. By leveraging DataCore, the Medical Center has experienced benefits associated with faster performance and greater productivity through Exchange, the Payroll system and backups. Payroll times were cut in half and backups improved, decreasing from eight hours to three hours.
Further financial benefits included extending the life of the EHMC’s current storage investments. The Medical Center reclaimed over-provisioned storage by using the thin-provisioning technology inherent to SANsymphony-V, providing sufficiently more storage space while reducing costs.
