247% Increase from 2012 to 2013 for Veeam Hyper-V Revenue

10,000 customers in 115 countries

Veeam Software, Inc. announced that its Hyper-V business segment experienced 247% growth in revenue from 2012 to 2013, the fastest growth of any business segment in the company’s seven-year history.

In early 2011, Veeam decided to invest in the growing Hyper-V market, resulting in the November 2011 release of support for Hyper-V in Veeam’s product, Veeam Backup & Replication. That investment has paid dividends as Microsoft has continued to steadily gain momentum, fueled by Windows Server 2012 and Azure adoption, which has put Veeam in a position to dominate the Hyper-V backup market.

Today, more than 10,000 customers in over 115 countries use Veeam Backup & Replication to protect their Hyper-V environments.

Building on the groundbreaking functionality introduced in Windows Server 2012 R2 with Hyper-V, Veeam Backup & Replication provides small and medium-sized businesses with a reliable backup solution that enables fast, flexible recovery,” said Chris Van Wesep, director server and tools marketing, Microsoft, Corp. With powerful data protection solutions that are easy to use and affordable, Veeam has demonstrated a strong commitment to serving customers who rely on Windows Server 2012 R2 with Hyper-V.

Additional highlights from Veeam’s Hyper-V growth include:

  • November 2013: Veeam becomes the first vendor to support both Windows Server 2012 R2 and vSphere 5.5.
  • June 2013: Veeam Backup & Replication wins Best of TechEd 2013 Award in the Backup and Recovery Category.
  • June 2012: Veeam wins Microsoft Partner of the Year for Management and Virtualization and achieves Microsoft Gold management and virtualization competency.

In today’s fast-moving business environment, IT can’t afford downtime so it’s vital that executives, employees and customers can always access the information and applications they need from any place and any time,” said Ratmir Timashev, CEO, Veeam. “Veeam leverages virtualization, storage and the cloud to enable the Always-On Business. Our data center availability solutions deliver high-speed recovery, data loss avoidance, verified protection, risk mitigation and complete visibility. We’re proud to have provided early support for Hyper-V and, as Hyper-V has grown, that support has only strengthened.”

Western Health (WH), a public provider of medical services with 6,000 employees across four hospitals, two aged-care facilities and a drug and alcohol treatment center in western metropolitan Melbourne, Australia, demonstrates the benefits organizations have realized by using Veeam Backup & Replication to protect their Hyper-V environments.

Western Health has about 250 VMs, which support electronic medical records, document processing and web interfaces. Its data center must be always-on because its facilities operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

In addition to being an early adopter of virtualization, Western Health was a beta user and launch partner for Windows Server 2012. When they experienced data recoverability constraints with their legacy backup tool, team members began looking for a new solution.

Our legacy backup tool did not support the modern architecture of our virtual environment,” said Cameron McBride, manager, systems and software solutions, Western Health. “We had several criteria for a new backup and recovery solution. It had to be designed specifically for virtual environments, support Hyper-V, provide fast backup and recovery, be agentless and backup directly to our deduplication storage appliance. Veeam offered support for Hyper-V much earlier than other vendors, which allowed us to backup our Hyper-V VMs shortly after we installed a beta version of Windows Server 2012.”

With Veeam, Western Health gained a data protection solution that delivers availability for their modern data center and is ten times faster (improving RTOs and RPOs), substantially simpler to use and costs much less than their legacy backup tool.

We’ve improved recovery time from a few days to a few hours,” McBride said. “These new availability features mean much faster recovery times when moving workloads from primary to secondary locations. This gives great assurance to the business that IT services will never be interrupted.”

Veeam currently has 25,000 ProPartners and more than 101,000 customers worldwide.
