Wipro and Nexenta Collaborate in India
To deliver cloud computing solutions via SDS-enabled virtual desktops
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on May 13, 2014 at 2:49 pmNexenta Systems, Inc. announced that Wipro Ltd, an IT, consulting and outsourcing company has selected Nexenta to create a user storage infrastructure for tens of thousands of virtual desktop users.
Wipro is deploying Nexenta’s SDS solution in four of its data centers in India on x86 hardware and expects a growing demand for this type of storage in the coming years. Nexenta will provide advanced SAN and NAS capabilities, hardware independence, cost effectiveness per TB of storage and open APIs.
The desktop virtualization infrastructure is powered by Wipro’s VirtuaDesk – an integrated hardware, software and managed services solution. Wipro’s VirtuaDesk solution is based on a Citrix-Microsoft software stack for desktop virtualization and includes Wipro’s proprietary hardware reference architecture and VirtuaDesk software. VirtuaDesk utilizes Citrix XenDesktop, Citrix XenApp, and Citrix NetScaler Gateway to provide multiple types of virtual desktops – persistent and non-persistent VDI, published desktops and applications. The end users are provided with their own optimised desktop using the core XenDesktop technologies of centralized management (FMA) and optimised user experience (Citrix HDX) across multiple devices and OSs.
Wipro is integrating VirtuaDesk Software with NexentaStor to automate storage services for end users – creating a layered profile for user data management in a virtual desktop environment and adding a layer of automation which will reduce administrative headaches and dependency on the storage administrator. The combination of NexentaStor and Citrix technology provides end users with flexibility in hardware purchases, increased user profile access speeds and a lower TCO.
“We needed a scalable and cost-effective file storage solution for our VDI implementation. Nexenta proved that we can achieve great performance metrics while being able to scale the storage capacity without excess expense,” said Andrey Zhulenev, GM and VirtuaDeskPractice head, Wipro. “We are excited to work with Nexenta on our internal Wipro company storage requirements and offer the same solution to our VirtuaDesk customers.“
“Skyrocketing storage hardware costs are paralyzing organizations across the globe, but, it doesn’t have to be that way,” said Tarkan Maner, chairman and CEO, Nexenta. “At Nexenta, we combine cost-optimization, speed and scalability to deliver software-defined storage-enabled cloud Computing solutions that will provide ultra-low cost, fast-time to market and improved risk management for Wipro and its customers.“
“We’re excited about our growing partnership with Nexenta and the addition of NexentaStor into Wipro’s solution with Citrix, VirtuaDesk,” said Andy Vandeveld, VP enterprise partner sales, Citrix Systems, Inc. “Storage cost is traditionally a barrier to successful VDI deployments, and Nexenta solutions help address the requirement for better economics.“
