For 6TB HDD, Price of Seagate 27% Lower Than WD/HGST
But 2.4x to 3.2x more per gigabyte than 4TB units

MacWay sells to end users the 6TB HGST Ultrastar 7K2000 HUS726060ALA640 (6Gb SATA, 7,200rpm, 64MB cache, 7 disks) for €582.50 without VAT and the 6TB Seagate Desktop Enterprise ST6000NM0024 (6Gb SATA, 7,200rpm, 128MB cache, 6 disks) for €457.50 or 27.3% cheaper.
We don’t see real reasons to buy the more expansive HGST’s model as its competitor has twice more capacity of cache and is faster. Only advantages for HGST is a better MTBF (2 million vs. 1.4 million hours and a lower operating power (8.8 vs. 11.3 watts.)
Warranty for both of them at MacWay is only one year (but officially five years for the two manufacturers).
To compare the specs of the two models
At the same MacWay, for 4TB internal desktop devices, a Seagate unit (ST4000DM000) costs €120.75 an a WD (Green IntelliPower 64 Mo) €129.08 without VAT, or €0.03/GB. Here the end users will prefer to buy two 4TB HDDs rather than one 6TB, the difference between the two units being huge, 2.4x to 3.2x per gigabyte.
More precisely, for the price of one Seagate 6TB unit (€457.50), you can get at MacWay twice this capacity or 12TB buying three 4TB HDDs for a lower global price (€362.28).
Currently at Amazon.com, the 6TB HGST’s HDD is at $674.99 through Memoryexpousa, and the Seagate’s unit at $583.96 VAT included, the difference being here 15.6%.
