CMS Products Assigned Patent

Secure erase of deleted file on HDD

CMS Products, Inc. announced the issuance to it by the US Patent Office of a patent that covers secure erase of a deleted file.

The patent for invention number 8,627,020 is for “Security erase of a delete file and of sectors not currently assigned to a file” on a computer HDD.

This latest patent makes claims in connection with our technology that allows for the secure erasure of deleted files on a computer’s HDD“, said Ken Burke, president, CMS Products. “It expands the number of CMS patents issued to 13, which adds confirmation to CMS Products leadership in developing technologies in data security, backup technology and data management.

The patent method assures that deleted files are securely erased and overwritten with multiple overwrite patterns which completely remove the deleted file and render it unrecoverable with current file recovery technology.

Data security is a growing concern in the marketplace today. Individuals as well as corporations are focused on securing their data and making sure that sensitive files are safely stored or destroyed,” said Burke. “CMS has various patents covering the lifecycle of data management and has committed resource to continual development in secure data management.”

CMS also owns a variety of patents centered around USB boot and backup. This technology allows a computer user to have instant recovery of their system in the event of a system failure. Full system backup, external USB boot and secure erase are valuable tools in the management of important user data or corporate IP.
