This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on April 2, 2014 at 2:57 pmMCE Technologies announced its MobileStor Performance 2TB internal HDD upgrade for MacBook Pro, MacBook, and Mac mini systems.
Starting with a 2TB 2.5″ internal SATA HDD to replace the original SATA internal HDD, the 2TB HDD solution includes an external, portable USB 3.0 enclosure for use with the original 2.5″ SATA HDD facilitating data transfer. It comes with cloning/backup software, tools required for installation, and an illustrated installation manual. The solution carries a price of $199 and is available for shipment.
“We’re thrilled to be first to market with a 2TB internal HDD upgrade for the non-Retina MacBook Pros, MacBooks, and Mac mini,” stated Arnold Ramirez, president, MCE. “Users can now have an unprecedented 4TB inside their MacBook Pro when this upgrade is accompanied by our 2TB OptiBay HDD solution.“
The upgrade unit features a rotational speed of 5,400rpm, a maximum sustained data transfer rate of 169MB/sec with 32MB of on-board cache supplying burst transfer rates of 600MB/s. The drive also features Native Command Queing (NCQ) in which the drive automatically reorders commands in the most efficient way based on the location of data on its platters in order to retrieve, or write, that data with the least latency. S.M.A.R.T. status monitoring is also supported and can warn of possible or impending disk failure before one actually occurs allowing the user to take action to keep their data safe. The S.M.A.R.T. status can be verified using Apple’s disk utility or system profiler program.
The included portable, external USB 3.0 enclosure is bootable on all Intel Macs and is provided with cloning software in order to facilitate transition to the HDD as well as to allow continued usage of the original drive for storage or backup.
