SimplyHDD Shipping Tested HDDs and SSDs

Acuteksystems, the team behind SimplyNAS, announced SimplyHDD web site, offering only HDD and SSDs, which are shipped tested and ready to install and store.

The new site and concept was conceived as a consequence of the rise in demand for tested drives, mainly resulting from the increased cases of drives being delivered non-functional, basically dead on arrival (DOA), an increasing trend that SimplyHDD wants to eradicate.

One of the main reasons for the drop in quality is the consistent downward spiral of the price for consumer drives, as these are manufactured to hit a particular price point, and tend to have the shortest MTBF ratio, and consequently are aimed and produced as a low cost drive.

The integration temptation in a multiple drive array from a cost ratio can become attractive. The drives are also designed for deployment in an 8 hours a day, 5 days a week scenario in the worst case.

SimplyHDD strives to remove this uncertainty when the drive is shipped to the customer by testing the drives and as a minimum measure ensures the dead on arrival element is eradicated. The price premium for tested drives is negligible and certainly not one that requires second consideration when you think of the time and effort saved for purchasing pre-tested drives.

All HDD drives are sourced directly from representatives of various manufacturers like Seagate, HGST and Western Digital avoiding the grey market product. All drives come with the manufacturer’s warranty, and are shipped tested, a concept that no other reseller of drives offer. SimplyHDD also sells the NAS Diskpaks used for NAS arrays; these are bundled in 4,8,12, and 16 packs allowing any user purchasing a NAS to use the special NAS Diskpaks which contain high quality drives already burn tested for the individual NAS arrays.
