Exablox Deploys 1PB in Two Quarters of 2013
On scale-out OneBlox appliance
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on February 26, 2014 at 2:53 pmExablox Corp. announced that its OneBlox scale-out storage appliance provides fast deployment and its customers have deployed more than one petabyte of storage in its first two quarters of shipping product in 2013.
Its zero-configuration appliance can be installed and available for use within five minutes including enterprise storage management features. The company provides mid-market customers with a quick and easy route to managing the growth of their unstructured data by eliminating time-consuming storage management tasks, achieving rapid deployment times, and offering the flexibility of its BYOD strategy.
In addition, enterprise features such as a global file system, three-minute storage expansion, inline deduplication and CDP, combined with OneSystem’s zero configuration storage management, results in a shortened sales cycle for channel partners.
“Enterprise storage has historically been very difficult to deploy and manage, and it’s expensive,” said Terri McClure, senior analyst, Enterprise Strategy Group. “However, Exablox is taking a completely different approach. The company is showing the industry that storage can deliver enterprise features, yet be simple and elegant to manage, and let customers ride the dropping hardware commodity curve. Exablox promises to change the game in multiple economic dimensions on both the OPEX and CAPEX front.“
With the growth of unstructured data, medium-size enterprises are now experiencing storage challenges similar to those that larger enterprises have been struggling with for years. The mid-market requires enterprise features to support their business, but often lack the budget and expertise of larger companies. As a result, the under-served mid-market has had to over pay for complex enterprise NAS arrays or sacrifice features they need in order to purchase systems to fit their budget. Exablox’s ability to eliminate these challenges makes the benefits of object-based storage a reality for the mid-market, providing storage to any user or application without the need for proprietary APIs.
According to IDC, “[Object-based storage platforms] offer a promising future for organizations trying to balance scale, complexity and costs.” (IDC MarketScape Excerpt: Worldwide Object-Based Storage 2013 Vendor Assessment, IDC, October 2013, Ashish Nadkrani and Amita Potnis)
OneBlox’s architecture enables customers to scale performance, capacity and availability non-disruptively and with zero configuration. As it enables capacity growth in three minutes without application downtime or reconfiguration, organizations can purchase the needed capacity and grow over time by adding any number of disk drives or additional OneBlox appliances. Furthermore, the ability to Bring Your Own Drives from any manufacturer brings down storage costs by a factor of ten.
In addition to being affordable and simple to manage, Exablox provides enterprise features such as cloud-based management, a scaleable global file system, inline deduplication, and CDP that mid-size enterprises need to support their growing business.
OneSystem is a multi-tenant cloud-based management service that provides reporting, proactive monitoring and management of OneBlox across any number of locations. Particularly attractive to MSPs, a single OneSystem account is capable of managing any number of customers’ OneBlox in any location, all while maintaining the isolation and integrity of each customer’s information.
Exablox’s approach has resulted in significant traction in the healthcare, government, legal, non-profit, manufacturing, and media and entertainment industries and has been recognized with industry awards.

“Until now, medium-size enterprises had two options when trying to solve unstructured storage challenges: buy costly and complex enterprise storage or buy affordable storage without the needed enterprise features,” said Douglas Brockett, CEO, Exablox. “OneSystem and OneBlox remove the management complexity by providing zero-configuration enterprise-grade storage at a price point the mid-market can afford. We’re delivering on our promise of reimagining storage and filling a significant void in the market. For this reason, we have seen tremendous early demand and acceptance for our solution.”
