Authenticating iSCSI initiator connected to FC SAN

Cisco Technology, San Jose, CA, has been assigned a patent (8,594,083) developed by Chandan Mishra, Sunnyvale, CA, for methods and apparatus “for authenticating an iSCSI initiator connected to a FC SAN.

The abstract of the patent published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office states: “Methods and apparatus are provided for authenticating an iSCSI initiator connected to a FC SAN. An iSCSI initiator performs an authentication exchange with a FC target such as a FC host or disk array through one or more FC switches. Authentication information such as password information no longer is required at FC switches and can instead be aggregated at FC targets.”

The patent application was filed on April 1, 2005 (11/097,613).
