Bruce Backa, Vice Chairman, SNIA Storage Security Industry Forum

NTP Software, Inc., in file data management, announced that its CEO, Bruce Backa, has been elected as vice chairman of the storage security subcommittee for the Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA), a not-for-profit organization responsible for the development of storage solution specifications and technologies, global standards and storage education.

 Backa begins his term January 2, 2014.

From vendors to channel partners to end users, SNIA’s 400 member companies are dedicated to providing the industry with knowledge exchange and thought leadership. The goal of the organization is to promote acceptance, deployment and confidence in storage-related architectures, systems, services and technologies across IT and business communities.

Backa will be the vice chairman of the Storage Security Industry Forum (SSIF), a SNIA subcommittee that brings together storage and security professionals, security practitioners and academics to contribute to a better understanding of storage security and how it applies to organizations.

He founded NTP Software nearly 20 years ago. He has also held CTO positions at the international insurance and financial services firm AIG and the American Stock Exchange. He has several U.S. and international patents related to data management, and was awarded the Kemeny Prize in Computing from Dartmouth College.

“SNIA is the one global industry committee that matters and I consider the opportunity to vice chair the subcommittee that deals with issues relating to security an important one,” said Backa. “Because security is such an important part of today’s storage ecosystem, I look forward to serving in this role to better define, design and drive key management initiatives to better protect and secure business-critical information.”
