PerpecSys Cloud Encryption Security to Box and DropBox
Encrypt data with client-side keys
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on December 26, 2013 at 2:53 pmPerspecSys Inc. extended its AppProtex Cloud Data Control Gateway to support both Box and DropBox file-sharing applications.
It delivers high level of cloud data protection and control, giving enterprise users the ability to leverage cloud storage and collaboration services.
While the popularity for sharing, collaboration and data management tools like Box and DropBox continues to increase (DropBox recently announced 200 million users) so do the risks to the enterprise.
Monica Basso, research VP, specializing in enterprise mobility, Gartner Inc., notes, “These (personal cloud file synchronization) services are simple, powerful and often free in the entry version, which makes them a perfect tool for many IT users to leverage at work. The proliferation of BYOD programs in the enterprise market furthers this trend. Unfortunately, personal cloud services represent a serious security and compliance threat for most IT organization, enabling employees to easily share corporate documents with third parties, complete outside IT’s control.”
CIOs and CISOs are struggling to reconcile the benefits of these tools and needs of their workforces with the compliance, data security and privacy guidelines that must be in place to protect the organization. With this service they can stop wrestling. This ensures that data and documents are never sent or stored outside of an organization, thereby removing the security threat associated with sharing by providing data control and compliance with data privacy and residency laws.
It sits between the cloud software application and its end-users, intercepting information before it is passed into the cloud. The data is replaced with a random token or encrypted value that is meaningless outside the server, so should anyone intercept the data either in transit or while in the cloud, it is indecipherable. Customers retain ownership of the encryption keys and/or token vault, enabling them to enjoy control, which not only helps secure their organization, but also helps them remain compliant with government and industry regulations (both national and international).
“Box and DropBox offer enterprises amazing tools for improving productivity and collaboration while reducing costs, and their users deserve all the rewards of those solutions without the data security, privacy and residency risks,” said David Canellos, CEO, PerspecSys. “By extending our platform to support these applications, we help customers take full advantage of all that Box and DropBox have to offer. We’ll continue to expand our platform to support the new multi-cloud world that all businesses must navigate. Our goal is to make the cloud easier for enterprise by helping them make the use of the public cloud completely private.“
