Showa Denko Shipping 670GB 2.5-Inch Hard Disk Platters

Showa Denko K.K. has started this month commercial shipments of 2.5-inch HDD media with storage capacity of 670GB per disk, using the seventh-generation PMR technology.

This 2.5-inch HD media have the highest storage capacity for this size.

While SDK is now mainly supplying 2.5-, and 3.5-inch sixth-generation PMR media, the company will take the lead in commercializing higher-capacity media with the launch of the seventh-generation 2.5-inch media.

An independent HD media supplier, SDK will aim to ensure stable supply of high-capacity media.

SDK’s HD media based on the PMR technology are classified as shown in the table below according to respective storage capacities. (Unit: GB/disk; as of November 20, 2013)
