University of Wolverhampton Selects Nimble Storage
For SSD/HDD arrray
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on November 19, 2013 at 2:38 pmNimble Storage, Inc. announced the University of Wolverhampton has implemented its CS220G-X2 system to support the university’s VDI workload.
The Nimble system provides a highly-available, redundant controller design that scales to fit the university’s storage performance and capacity requirements. For high-IO/s environments like VDI, the array provides adaptive performance, to meet the university staff’s mainstream business applications needs.
For the university, the appeal of Nimble Storage’s flash-optimised hybrid system was a big draw. By harnessing a hybrid system, the university’s staff benefit from optimum performance regardless of device and remote or local access. All this is achieved alongside efficiency thanks to utilisation of performance flash with the favorable economics of high-capacity HDD drives.
Graeme Rowe, EMEA marketing director, Nimble Storage, commented: “From day one we understood the capacity and performance needs of the university had to be addressed. With the growth of the consumerisation of IT and flexible working, it’s important the staff have a flexible and performant desktop environment to facilitate the growing demands of cross-campus working and support the growing number of consumer devices that are now used by employees.”
Kate Iddles, IT services system engineer, University of Wolverhampton, added: “After conducting a competitive analysis, it was clear Nimble Storage could provide the performance and scalability we needed to support our staff’s requirements. By moving to a flash optimised hybrid storage solution we have been able to measure a significant increase, in the region of 50-100% IO/s increase.”
Nimble Storage has developed an hybrid storage architecture engineered to address the industry’s most pressing storage issues: delivering better performance and capacity at a reasonable price; providing integrated protection with rapid backup and recovery; and, reining in storage complexity. The company’s products are based on its patented Cache Accelerated Sequential Layout (CASL) hybrid storage architecture that leverages fast read performance of flash and the cost-effective capacity of HDD drives. It combines this flash-optimised architecture with Nimble InfoSight, a cloud-based management service that delivers predictive support and operational simplicity through deep data analytics.
