Acronis Supporting Mavericks OS for ExtremeZ-IP

Integration in Spotlight, Time Machine support, etc., $6,995 for unlimited clients

Acronis International GmbH, announced that its ExtremeZ-IP 8.1 supports Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks.

The software is harmonising Apple Mac use on Windows servers, resolving issues of Mac use in the Windows-server populated workplace.

According to a recent Forrester Research Inc.’s report, Apple will sell $7 billion worth of Macs to the corporate market this year, and many enterprises allow employees to bring their own devices and purchase Mac computers. Despite the number of mixed Mac-Windows environments, IT must provide the same user experience. Due to incompatibilities between Mac and Windows, however, IT support staff are left battling corrupt files and diminished network performance, and end users can’t perform the most routine tasks, such as accessing and printing files from a Windows server.

This solves network performance degradation, file corruption, and other incompatibility-related issues caused by the different communication protocols used when accessing Windows file, print, and NAS servers from a Mac.

Features:

  • Enterprise-wide file sharing and integration in a Mac-Windows infrastructure
  • Distributed File System volume access to Macs
  • Time Machine backup support to control available disk space quotas
  • Nearly instantaneous full-content search results with support for Mac OS Network Spotlight
  • Prevents Mac users from creating filenames that are not allowed in Windows

Acronis ExtremeZ-IP solved the compatibility and performance issues our Mac users faced when accessing Windows file, print and NAS servers,” said Youssef Slitine, senior IT manager, Public Access Corporation, Washington DC. “At the same time, it reduced the number of support calls to our IT help desk. With the newly released support of OS X Mavericks, our Mac users will undoubtedly continue to rely on the high productivity provided by ExtremeZ-IP while enjoying the experience of Apple?s most advanced products.”

Working with OS X in a corporate enterprise environment has always presented its challenges,” said Jay Kainz, owner, JK Tech Services, member of the Apple consultants network.

He continued, “It’s a positive sign that Acronis continues to develop ExtremeZ-IP, because it is an irreplaceable tool in a mixed Mac and Windows enterprise infrastructure. By supporting OS X Mavericks, Acronis is showing us that they will continue to develop and keep ExtremeZ-IP a valuable tool for Mac users.

Today’s release demonstrates Acronis’ continued commitment to making it even easier for enterprise IT administrators to integrate the latest Mac OSs and Apple devices into their networks,” said Brian Ulmer, director of product management. “Our customers can be assured that we will continue to keep ExtremeZ-IP current with the latest Apple technology in the future.

It’s available as a free upgrade to existing customers under a maintenance contract. It can also be downloaded as a free trial and purchased by new customers via the Acronis web store, which offers two pricing options for enterprises:

  • Enterprise subscription licensing, and
  • Perpetual licensing.
