This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on July 1, 2013 at 2:45 pmCA Technologies, Inc. announced ARCserve D2D for Linux, providing data protection and DR for businesses running virtual and physical servers on the open source platform.
An image-based solution, it helps organizations protect the integrity and availability of critical systems, applications and data within their shrinking backup windows. It complements ARCserve D2D for Windows, providing a solution for heterogeneous environments.
"Long periods of downtime or data loss can have a devastating impact on businesses who are already struggling to keep up with their ever-changing IT environment," said JindÅ™ich RosiÄ?ka, technical director at IS4 Technologies, an IT solutions and services provider based in the Czech Republic. "CA ARCserve D2D for Linux has the speed and reliability that our customers need to meet their demanding business requirements. We also plan to use the solution to protect our own Linux servers."
ARCserve D2D for Linux provides fast and frequent backups to meet today’s demanding recovery point objectives, and flexible recovery options that reduce business downtime and support fast RTOs. In addition, built-in data security supports diverse compliance requirements.
ARCserve data compression reduces backup-related storage requirements and costs. Unattended bare-metal recovery enables systems to be restored to similar or dissimilar physical or virtual servers-giving customers much flexibility when it comes to recovery infrastructure. Granular recovery allows individual file restoration from any recovery point image.
"Our customers need fast, cost-effective backup software that is easy-to-use and delivers true business value," said Stephen Lawlor, senior storage and virtualization consultant at Cristie Data Ltd, UK provider of storage and management solutions. "We were extremely pleased with how CA ARCserve D2D for Linux performed during rigorous testing in a Centos environment. It worked flawlessly and intuitively with each and every restoration scenario we threw at it-while also offering superior value."
Users access ARCserve D2D for Linux through a Web 2.0 console that enables hassle-free, automated agent installation, as well as centralized management, configuration and reporting of all protected Linux servers.
It can be licensed individually on a per-server (or VM) basis. It also is included in ARCserve managed capacity (per-terabyte) and virtual server per-socket offerings. In addition to IT organizations, it is for resellers and service providers seeking to add Linux data protection to their service offerings.
"IT has to aggressively reduce the amount of time and effort they spend protecting mission-critical systems, including those powered by Linux," said Steve Fairbanks, VP, product delivery, data management, CA. "CA ARCserve empowers our customers to fulfill their most pressing recovery objectives with a single, cross-platform solution and licensing options tailored to achieve maximum ROI."
ARCserve D2D for Linux supports Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.x and 6.x, as well as CentOS 5.x and 6.x. ARCserve backup, replication and HA solutions also support Linux.
