RainStor Earns Coveted Hortonworks Data Platform Certification
Following product testing and benchmarking
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on June 28, 2013 at 3:06 pmRainStor, Inc. has completed product testing and benchmarks resulting in certification of its designed-for-big data database on the Hortonworks, Inc.‘s Data Platform (HDP).
Hortonworks, which develops and supports a 100% open source (Apache) Hadoop distribution, is a Hadoop vendors. Built and packaged by the core architects of Hadoop, HDP includes all the components to manage a cluster at scale and uncover business insights from existing and new data sources.
Hortonworks certification confirms RainStor value in enterprise Apache Hadoop deployments. Companies can reliably and cost-effectively store years of historical data in RainStor, which offers enterprise security and support for broad query tools, including SQL 92, Pig, Hive and MapReduce. It runs on the low cost hardware and its patented database compression technology reduces big storage footprints up to 97%. RainStor is used by large banks, telecommunication providers and government agencies.
Hortonworks tested RainStor for data load, data compression and query response performance against financial services trade data. The results showed that RainStor on HDP achieved the loading of 1 billion records in 47 minutes, a 29X data compression rate and a query response rate for RainStor SQL that is on average 4 to 10 times faster than Hive.
"RainStor’s database product is architecturally designed to run on HDFS and with its efficient way of storing data in a highly compressed format, you not only gain savings as your data volumes grow but you also speed up query performance," said Ajay Singh, director of technical channels, Hortonworks.
"Enterprise organizations prefer Hortonworks Data Platform for its ability to support large-scale historical archiving and analysis," said Julian Cook, SVP business development and alliances at RainStor. "Companies using RainStor with Hortonworks Hadoop Platform can achieve a low-cost, highly flexible big data solution."
