Astella Dx and Nx Servers by Bright, From $31,000
Media serving capabilities for SAN and NAS-based workflows
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on June 18, 2013 at 3:17 pmBright Technologies, Inc., developer of technologies for low-latency high-performance IT environments, has announced two additions to its BrightDrive range of all-in-one’ servers.
The new products, BrightDrive Astella Dx and Astella Nx, enhance product line by bringing to market powerful media serving capabilities for SAN and NAS-based workflows.
"With our new Astella Dx and Nx offerings, we are taking Bright’s proven technology to a wider range of users," said Shawn Clark, director of sales, Bright. "These smart all-in-one servers are perfect for post and broadcast facilities as well as any media-dependent operation that requires low-latency, high-performance SAN or NAS-based workflows. In fact, any organization that needs easy to install, plug-in and play servers combined with guaranteed high performance and reliability, are potential Bright customers."
Astella Dx uses a distributed LAN client system, enabling users working within Ethernet environments to achieve a more powerful, faster performance compared with traditional IT Ethernet speeds. It features an embedded BrightClip workspace with a maintenance-free server file system in a 4U server enclosure. A choice of 34TB, 68TB or 102TB capacity options are available. In addition, Astella Dx supports Quantum’s Distributed LAN Client (DLC) that enables BrightClip over Ethernet for BrightClip-enabled applications. BrightClip is Bright’s patented software technology for shared media environments. It provides optimal file layout on disk, eliminating performance loss through data randomization.
Astella Nx uses NAS Ethernet connected storage. It enables facilities to benefit from cost-efficient Ethernet connectivity, either 1GE or 10GbE, and combines a NAS server and storage space in a 4U enclosure. Storage capacity options are 36TB, 72TB or 108TB.
The original Astella server in a box’ has now been rebranded as Astella Fx to fit in with expanded Astella product line. Astella Fx uses FC, allowing storage to appear on the user’s local drive while providing real-time throughput up to 2 times uncompressed 4K, or 4 times 2k, as required for low-latency workflows.
All editions of Astella include storage, embedded server technology and BrightDrive’s streaming media intelligence. They also provide simplified administration and monitoring via GUIs, and are suitable for all types of workflows that rely on long-term high performance. In addition, Astella media servers are compatible with leading file-based media applications and file formats, making them easy to integrate with existing workflows.
Astella Fx, Dx, and Nx are available from Bright and its worldwide network of resellers with prices from $31,000.
