Synology Adding DS1513+ 5-Bay NAS

Synology
Inc. launched the
DS1513+,
which comes from a tradition of NAS servers.

This 5-bay
unit brings an unseen dimension to scalable storage for SMBs.

"Not
only the DS1513+ can be expanded up to 15 bays and 60TB with two
DX513 units, it’s also equipped with a fully configurable 4-ports
LAN adapter.The DS1513+ is designed to bring perfect balance between
bandwidth, safety and cost-efficiency for all our users. Reducing
downtimes while providing a high bandwidth capacity is now possible,"
declares Wayne An, product manager, Synology.

It comes
with a dual core 2.13GHz CPU and 2GB of RAM, which can be expanded to
4GB. This hardware has been tuned to run on the OS DSM 4.2,
allowing the NAS to reach data transfer rates up to an average
of 350.94MB/s (reading) and 202.34MB/s (writing) with
link aggregation. The NAS embeds other tweaks such as a
screw-less hard drive trays or anti-vibration pads to reduce
vibrations and noise level.

It embeds
multiple applications that will benefit from this raw power: VPN,
Syslog and mail services; DNS, DHCP, printer and web serving,
etc. Associated with a LUN management system and iSCSI
settings, the virtualizations certifications (vSphere 5
with VAAI support, XenServer and Windows Server 2012
with Hyper-V) will also caters to all needs of a virtualized
architecture.

In
addition to bringing multitasking operations, management and tons of
features, it is designed to optimize data safety. Redundant
system fans, multiple network ports with failover support, passive
cooling technology on the CPU and hot swappable hard drive design
maximize system uptimes. 

DSM 4.2
enables Synology high availability: if one NAS fails, another
one can take over automatically. So SMBs can take advantage of
HA solution to ensure BC.

It also provides features to boost productivity and simplify tasks, all
on an interface optimized for multitasking. It has received
media accolades, including PC Mag Readers’ Choice two years in a
row.
