LSI Number 2 in US PCIe SSD Revenue Behind Fusion-io, According to Forward Insights

40,000 Nytro products shipped in first year

LSI Corporation has moved into the No. 2 position in the rapidly growing enterprise PCIe flash adapter market segment, according to leading market research firms.

This No. 2 merchant supplier position is based on LSI internal estimates from its financial data and guidance from third-party analysts.

Since the introduction of the Nytro product portfolio in April 2012, the company has shipped more than 40,000 Nytro flash adapters. Demand reflects the needs of hyperscale web and cloud datacentres, financial services and other enterprises to accelerate application performance, increase datacentre efficiency and lower IT costs.

Flash-based solutions are becoming pervasive in the datacentre, and LSI has established itself as the No. 2 merchant supplier of enterprise PCIe flash adapters in the U.S., as well as the fastest-growing PCIe flash supplier worldwide,” said Greg Wong, founder and principal analyst at Forward Insights. “The fact that LSI has achieved such success in the first year of the Nytro product line is significant and underscores LSI’s strength in the storage industry.”

Nytro products are being deployed to cut latency and accelerate performance for key applications like Hadoop software-based big data analytics, online transaction processing, VDI, and shared-nothing infrastructures for virtualised, private/enterprise cloud build-out.

Having flash integrated into our controllers and other technology directly helps us to provide customers with the performance and consistency that they are looking for from Rackspace,” said John Engates, CTO, Rackspace Hosting. “LSI is collaborating with Rackspace on a number of hybrid cloud and Open Compute projects using LSI solutions including the Nytro product line.”

LSI’s broad portfolio of PCIe flash adapter products allows us to uniquely address customer challenges across a wider range of datacentre workloads than the competition,” said Gary Smerdon, SVP and GM, accelerated solutions division, LSI. “Customers value and benefit from LSI’s long track record of delivering robust, high-performance storage solutions as they struggle to accelerate applications while meeting the challenges of the growing data deluge.”

LSI serves the market directly, and through OEM customers and s existing reseller channel.

The company recently announced a Nytro OEM agreement with Intel, which adds to a list of previously announced OEM customers. Additionally, the number of end customer engagements, ranging from trials to production, has more than tripled in the past quarter.

The Nytro product portfolio includes the WarpDrive, XD and MegaRAID product families.
