The Agility Platform now supports policy-based, on-demand provisioning of storage leveraging ViPR. It automatically selects the optimal storage resource using parameters such as performance, cost, and size for the cloud platform or application being deployed. By leveraging Agility Platform’s policy engine for storage tiering and resource optimization, enterprise customers can better utilize their current storage investments and capitalize on a growing number of public cloud storage options.

Cloud computing is positioned to help transform the inefficient and manual IT operating models that exist today in large enterprises into automated, self-service models that provide significant benefits in terms of business agility and cost savings.

According to Eric Pulier, ServiceMesh CEO, "Enterprise-grade governance capabilities play a critical role in enabling IT transformation, which is why we are excited to be one of the first vendors to support policy-based controls that allow self-service, on demand access to EMC ViPR virtual storage arrays. ServiceMesh shares EMC ‘s vision for driving technology innovation and creating business value for our customers."

"EMC ViPR Software-Defined Storage represents a revolutionary approach to storage automation and management enabling the Service-Provider class levels of on demand storage access that is key to transforming IT services," said Christopher Ratcliffe, VP, marketing, advanced software division, EMC Corp. "The combination of the ServiceMesh Agility Platform and EMC ViPR software gives enterprises the ability to not only manage, but extract new business value from storage in a controlled, governed way."

Core to cloud computing success is the delivery of portfolios of cloud-based IT platforms and services that business users and developers can access on a self-service basis, with services automatically provisioned and delivered without manual approvals and human intervention. Enterprise governance capabilities play a critical role in enabling this IT transformation. The Agility Platform addresses this need by marrying self-service access with application-centric, cloud governance and security policies so you can achieve end-to-end automation with the appropriate safeguards in place.

ViPR abstracts storage from physical arrays into a single pool of virtual, software-defined storage. It automates provisioning by creating pre-defined policy-based, virtual storage arrays and delivering self-service access. It centralizes storage management and monitors utilization, performance and health all through a single interface across physical and virtual storage. Agility Platform interacts with ViPR by providing IT with an extensible policy engine that can be used to create policies that dictate which storage resources are for any given application being deployed. Policies can be set for a range of parameters, including performance, cost, and size for the cloud platform or application being deployed.

Agility Platform helps organizations realize the strategic benefits of cloud computing by enabling them to accelerate the release and deployment of applications onto private, public or hybrid clouds while governing their deployment, orchestration, and configuration with extensible policy controls. Global 2000 customers can accelerate the pace and frequency of their software releases, enabling business application owners to respond to new opportunities at the speed of market change.
