Prism Analysis Platform Enhanced by Bocada
Supporting Simpana 9, TSM 6.3 and 6.4, and Networker 8.0
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on April 17, 2013 at 2:18 pmBocada Inc., provider of data protection management software and the creator of the Data Protection Service Management (DPSM) model, announced the release of its Prism 8.0 platform, boosting performance, improving user experience and expanding application support.
New and enhanced reports, architectural updates and support for CommVault Simpana 9, IBM TSM 6.3 and 6.4, and EMC Networker 8.0 are among many new features in the Prism platform product family, which includes Bocada Vision, Prism and vpConnect.
Vision, Prism and vpConnect provide in-depth Health Check, Problem Management, Policy Management, SLA Management, VM Protection Analysis, Datastore and Media Capacity analysis as well as Chargeback and Audit reports.
The latest release adds support for Internet Explorer 10, improved media and capacity reports, new volume finder capability, server activity reports for NetBackup, TSM and CommVault servers and TSM TDP reporting for Exchange, SQL, SAP and vCenter, improving the depth of reporting available for TSM environments.
"There are really too many updates to list, but overall we focused on the details," said Nancy Hurley, Bocada CEO. "We know no two customers want to look at their environment the same way, so while other vendors can claim they have comprehensive reporting, the true value to the customer is an intuitive, flexible user experience that enables them to manipulate and customize reports as needed. The latest release enhances the user experience, with significant improvements to the navigation, grouping, filtering, viewing and report exporting capabilities. Customer feedback has been that ours is the most intuitive solution, hands down."
Additionally, Bocada made updates to its CommVault, IBM TSM and VMware vCenter 5.1 plug-ins to provide enhanced reporting in virtual environments, correlating vCenter data with VM backup activity. In addition to these applications, Bocada is the only vendor that provides centralized, correlated monitoring and reporting across virtual and physical environments for data protection applications from Symantec, EMC, Microsoft, Dell/Quest, NetApp, HP, Veeam, and CA.
"Visibility and health monitoring, such as the capability offered by Bocada, is key for ‘backup-diverse’ enterprises as well as for service providers and local partners who are offering (or may be looking to offer) data protection monitoring services," said Jason Buffington, senior analyst at Enterprise Strategy Group. "Backup administrators, MSPs/resellers selling monitoring services, and even application and business stakeholders all have different reporting needs. If one solution is going to meet those broad requirements, it needs to support multiple backup and replication applications – and offer both low-level tactical/job-based alerts and high-level SLA awareness. To do that, it also needs to be extremely flexible for administrators, management, and customers alike."
Vision, Prism and vpConnect share the same code base, a license key change turns on features as needed. Prism is primarily used in environments where customers do not use the VM API specific functionality in their backup application. Vision and vpConnect take advantage of VM API integration and correlate backup and snapshot activity with VMware vCenter configuration data to help ensure VMs are protected and recoverable, ensure effective capacity use and lower administrative costs.
