Rotterdam Library Chooses Nexenta

To upgrade 30TB storage environment

Nexenta
Systems, Inc.
announced that the Rotterdam
Library
has upgraded its storage environment to an OpenStorage solution
based on NexentaStor.

By moving from a legacy storage infrastructure to Nexenta, the library has
deployed a sustainable, future proof solution that provides optimised cost
efficiencies and scalability.

Attracting 3.4 million annual visitors and
with over 100.000 members, the library is the most visited cultural institution
in Rotterdam. Managing the 3 million books and other media items being loaned
out every year, it continuously faces the challenges of meeting
visitor expectations and managing and storing the millions of loan transactions. With public budgets shrinking, the IT department had to look for a
storage solution that would lower the TCO and provide the flexibility to support
future growth of the library’s storage capacity.

To provide sufficient storage capacity to
manage the visitor’s 300 VDI terminals, 100 VDI’s setup for internal use, all
of the 100 internal PCs, and multiple databases for the library’s loan system,
Nexenta partner Rhodix designed and
implemented a customer centric storage solution offering HA and cluster functionality. IT specialist Rhodix combined NexentaStor, Nexenta HA Cluster
plug-in software on Dell PowerVault MD3060e storage systems and Dell PowerEdge
R720 Servers, and created a 30TB storage solution. The new infrastructure can
be expanded to meet the library’s future storage needs.

Pascal Ringens, technical manager at
Rhodix said: "Using Nexenta is a
delight. The solutions perfectly match the storage needs of our customers in
the local government, health-care and industry segments by offering the degrees
of freedom needed to meet increasingly varying and complex customer demands.
"

Sjaak Westdijk, infrastructure specialist
at Rotterdam Library, said: "Picking
Nexenta will help expand and improve all of our services to our customers, to
levels unattainable with competing storage solutions, and certainly not at this
competitive price level. With the new Sofware-defined-Storage environment from
Nexenta we have stayed within the tight IT budget but have installed a
sustainable, enterprise feature rich, storage solution for many years to come.
"

Fabian Nowee, regional sales manager
Benelux at Nexenta, concludes: "The
Rotterdam Library is a great example of how our solutions can really impact the
public sector in the Netherlands and beyond. With pressure on IT budgets, but
rapidly growing storage needs, Nexenta offers an attractive proposition to all
industries including the government sector because it can scale competitively.
By partnering with technology vendors like Dell and key partners like Rhodix,
we have the ability to help many organisations to remain customer-centric and
competitive in this challenging economy.
