Bryant University Chooses Actifio for Copy Storage

Replacing legacy SAN-to-SAN replication and reducing costs "by $200,000"

Actifio, Inc. announced that its Copy storage platform has been selected and
deployed by Bryant University, a private
New England university with a 150-year tradition of innovation.

Bryant is using Actifio
to manage a storage explosion caused by the growth of campus technology application
endpoints, reduce costs and to better protect the data relied on by its
students and faculty.

The university will replace all of its legacy SAN-to-SAN
data replication technology with Actifio, freeing up 15% of its existing
storage capacity and saving the university an estimated $200,000.

Information is the
lifeblood of a university, and the technology to manage it underpins the entire
academic experience; from teaching and learning, to collaboration among
students and faculty, to business outreach and community services. Upon
matriculation, all students receive IT-issued laptops, and
are encouraged to use smartphones and tablets in classrooms to collaborate with
each other and faculty. The resulting online learning management system is
state-of-the-art, but the proliferation of devices and application
endpoints required to support it led to a 300% increase in the amount of data
stored and managed by the university, in just the last four years
. Digging into
the root causes of this data growth revealed an all-too-common root cause:
uncontrolled copy data.

"Technology is an invaluable learning tool at
the university, which means that I need to plan for maximum uptime and
availability. In the past this meant frequent data protection and business
resiliency testing that required planning, application downtime and costly
excess infrastructure which ultimately impacted our users,
" said Rich
Siedzik, senior IT director, Bryant University. "That was before Actifio. Now can run a Failover Test non-disruptively,
as often as we need to.  And if there’s a site failure, I can easily and
automatically sync back our unique data. That gives more peace of mind, from a
solution that costs us dramatically less than the system we were using before.
"

In offering new
technology based services, higher educational institutions around the world
face a tidal wave of data, coupled with the growing cost and complexity of the
software tools, hardware, and the personnel required to manage it all. More
and more are discovering that the driver of this exponential growth
is copy data – redundant copies of production data created by point
tools designed to meet the business requirements to protect, share, and analyze
information. With a purpose-built solution to address the root cause of the
copy data problem – siloed data protection and availability applications –
Actifio offers customers the ability to recover anything instantly for a TCO up
to 90% less than the traditional model.

"Rich and his team are a shining example of
an IT organization that thinks and acts strategically by aligning its
technology infrastructure with the needs of its users,
" said Actifio
CEO and founder, Ash Ashutosh. "In
the case of Bryant University, this means freeing the institution from the undue
burden of wildly redundant copy data so it can make all of the valuable
information created and used by students and faculty always available to them.
It also means freeing the IT team from the stress of unmet SLA’s and elongated
RTOs, which allows it to deliver its users what they need not only today, but
tomorrow. We’re proud Actifio is part of that strategic approach.
