Supermicro Supporting Intel Distribution for Apache Hadoop

Super Micro Computer, Inc. is expanding its Hadoop big data initiatives with support for the new Intel Distribution for Apache Hadoop Software (Intel Distribution).

Supermicro’s Hadoop-optimized server and storage systems have undergone testing and validation to support this announcement at the Strata Conference in Santa Clara, CA.

They include the efficient 4U FatTwin SuperServer F617H6-FTL+ systems which achieve up to 20% less power consumption compared to industry standard 1U Hadoop systems. Similar to the 1U standalone version that supports 12+2 drives (SKU# SYS-6017R-73HDP+), this 4U supports four nodes with twelve 3.5-inch HDDs plus two 2.5-inch drives each. Featuring front-side I/O and redundant Platinum level (94%+) power supplies, this FatTwin system delivers system power efficiency and low TCO.

For high-capacity backend storage, new SuperChassis 847D (Server SKU# SSG-6047R-E1R72L) supports 72 external, hot-swappable 3.5-inch SAS-2 or SATA-3 HDDs in 4U. The SC847D supports over 200TB of storage capacity and also features two 2.5-inch internal drive trays for OS installation on either SSD or HDD devices. This storage server chassis doubles the hot-swap storage density and still maintains high serviceability with all of the hot-swap drives being easily accessible from the front or back side without having to move the system. The SC847D comes standard with redundant Platinum level power supplies to provide reliability and power efficiency.
