The Annenberg
Foundation has opted to store its terabytes of data with a StorTrends
iSCSI SAN solution from American
Megatrends, Inc.
The Foundation’s IT staff manages an
almost entirely virtual data center, supporting over 200TB of data.
IT stakeholders at the Los Angeles-based foundation segmented their
data stores according to importance, identifying approximately 4TB of
data as critical. This data, residing in a virtual server environment
supported by VMware, is backed by the StorTrends single-controller
SAN.
"When it came down to selecting
a vendor to support the 4TB of critical data,
performance was certainly important. Equally important, however, was
a solution that was easy to use and easy to support. That’s why we
opted for StorTrends. The ManageTrends interface for the StorTrends
software is remarkably easy to use. The StorAID support team is just
as impressive. If I need it, I have direct access to the developers
that built the StorTrends SAN product. That’s pretty unique in the
storage industry," says Annenberg Foundation systems engineer David Sindell.
In addition to the SAN appliance, the
Foundation utilizes a StorTrends JBOD to provide 32TB of additional
capacity expansion – giving the Foundation a cushion as its "Tier
I" data grows in accordance with the organization’s mission.
"The StorTrends SAN and JBOD
represent the cornerstone of our global storage solution. StorTrends
may not manage the most data, but it surely manages our most
important data. I think that’s a testament to our trust in AMI,"
notes Sindell.
