Imation Corp., Oakdale, MN, has been assigned a patent (8,373,946) developed by Robert C. Martin, St. Paul, MN, for a "reader including an interposer that prevents coupling with write-protected data cartridges."
The abstract of the patent published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office states: "A removable HDD storage system includes a data storage cartridge having a write protect switch, and a reader configured to couple to and read data from the data storage cartridge. The reader includes a physical block that aligns with the write protect switch of the data storage cartridge. The physical block aligns with the write protect switch of the data storage cartridge to prevent the reader from coupling to the data storage cartridge when the write protect switch is in a write protect position."
The patent application was filed on Nov. 22, 2011 (13/302,973).
Recovery of data access for locked secure storage device
Imation Corp., Oakdale, MN, has been assigned a patent (8,335,920) developed by David Alexander Jevans, Los Altos, CA, for a "recovery of data access for a locked secure storage device."
The abstract of the patent published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office states: "A system for recovery of data access of a locked secure storage device can comprise a keystore module and an authorization module. The keystore module may be configured to allow access to a master file system comprising a user encryption key for data stored within the locked secure storage device based on a master code. The authorization module may be configured to receive the administrator code, authenticate the administrator code, decode the master code, and reset a lockout parameter of the locked secure storage device."
