Gridblaze Acquired by Unknown San Francisco Storage Start-Up

Being consumer Internet service provider

The following text was published on the web site of Gridblaze:

We are getting acquired (for our technology)

With tinge of sadness and much joy, I would like to announce that Gridblaze has been acquired. We can’t announce who acquired us as part of the terms of the deal but you will see blazingly fast uploads and downloads shortly on a very popular consumer internet service. The acquisition includes the Gridblaze proximity storage technology and patent.

With immediate effect, we will stop the creation of new accounts and will advise customers to move their data to alternative storage providers before the 22nd of Feb 2013. Should there be any need for help, please feel free to contact us and we will try to make the transition as painless as possible.

A big thank you to all users and supporters. We couldn’t have created such an awesome platform without you.

Based in Singapore and San Francisco, CA, Gridblaze was founded by founded by Mikhail Choo and a team of hackers and coders as an experimental solution out of Ape.IO, an incubation and experimentation lab.

It provides a SaaS distributed storage platform with proximity based routing that automatically stores content on the closest storage node and keeps it there to speed communications. It is like Content Delivery Network (CDN) but in reverse, called Content Storage Network (CSN). The service begins at $10/month for 80GB.

Among the storage start-ups located in San Francisco, CA, we found only one being in the consumer Internet service: Dropbox.
