With a drive transfer rate of up to 400 MB/s (with 2.5:1 data compression) and storage capacity of up to 6.25 TB (with 2.5:1 data compression), LTO-6 cartridges address the need of AV professionals for cost- and energy-efficient, reliable media solutions for a variety of professional broadcast and video applications.

"Maxell recently completed the LTO Ultrium 6 data cartridge compliance verification process, including an exhaustive series of tests to confirm interchange compatibility with other drives and media," said Pat Byrne, senior marketing manager for Maxell. "With the capacity to hold today’s large, graphic-intensive files, LTO Ultrium 6 specifically addresses customers with increasing archival and storage needs at an incredible value. Users can rest assured that the Linear Tape File System continues to ensure quick and easy access to files, and can remain confident of the compatibility and interchangeability between Maxell LTO Ultrium media, and all brands of Ultrium drives and media."

LTO-6 features WORM functionality and advanced encryption capabilities, making it suited for backup and archival applications requiring security, such as legal and medical records, and financial data that must comply with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act. It also incorporates LTFS, which allows LTO-6 to be used in a manner similar to that of HDDs. Because LTO-6 is a tape technology, it has inherent advantages compared to HDD, including lowering energy consumption and reducing storage media costs.

NeoSMART Maximizes LTO-6 Technology

The incorporation of Maxell’s patented NeoSMART (Super Maximum-capacity Advanced Reliability Tape) technology maximizes the benefits of LTO-6. Ultra-fine ceramic-armored metal particles with high energy and recording performance augment the LTO-6 capacity, as well as create an added level of protection from corrosion, for advanced archival storage life and superior durability. Accurate servo writing technologies, which Maxell developed in its manufacturing process, ensure stable servo characteristics and superior tracking reliability, corresponding to increased data track density to achieve the capacity of LTO-6.

Maxell also developed advanced dispersion and calendaring processes that improve read/write performance, and ensure high output and enhanced stability, complementing the increased recording density. Durability and stability – two critical attributes in data storage and archiving – are enhanced by special lubricant control and filler uniformity developed for the head/tape interface.

NeoSMART creates additional advantages for AV professionals. It utilizes a basefilm with superior dimensional stability to ensure reliability and durability for high-density recording and playback, as well as archival storage. It also has a uniform, ultra-thin sub-micron coating and advanced calendaring processes to achieve high output and enhanced stability for read/write performance.

A built-in non-contact 16KB memory chip stores historical usage records and enables fast data searches. The chip is also used by Maxell Cartridge Memory Analyzers to diagnose drive or tape abnormalities.
