Zetta
Inc. announced the availability of DataProtect
for NetApp.
The solution delivers cloud-based
offsite backup, replication and DR for environments that use NetApp
filers, without the need for additional hardware, tapes or third
party software. Organizations that rely on NetApp can deploy offsite
backup solution in less than 30 minutes.
"Zetta delivers an affordable
option for organizations looking for an enterprise-grade offsite
backup and DR solution that doesn’t require heavyweight backup
software packages, redundant NetApp filers, SnapMirror software, or
additional datacenters," said Gary Sevounts, VP marketing,
Zetta.net. "For businesses that rely today on tape and
expensive backup software, Zetta.net helps to significantly reduce
offsite backup cost and complexity, while improving RPO and RTO."
Integrating backup, replication and
recovery software,
cloud storage, and WAN traffic optimization,
DataProtect for NetApp delivers:
- Open Replication – enabling the
browsing of backup files and folders in the cloud prior to recovery,
enabling more granular and faster restores.
- Recovery – flexibility
to recover backup data to other servers or filers, instead of having
to restore data to another NetApp system.
- Incremental
Backups – after the initial full backup, it detects
incremental changes in the data, and applies them to the existing
offsite backup copy, bringing it current.
It removes NDMP inefficiencies and
supports UNIX and NTFS ACLSs and LUN backups and restores. It also
delivers incremental forever backup and replication for long-term
data availability.
Installation requires just a download
and deployment of the ZettaMirror software on a gateway server. Once
installed, customers may map the ZettaMirror client to the NetApp
filer, selecting the data to be backed up.
Cook Inlet Tribal Council saves
hundreds of
thousands of dollars with DataProtect for NetApp
Cook Inlet
Tribal Council is using DataProtect for NetApp to avoid
purchasing additional hardware and software to support offsite
backup. CITC is a tribal nonprofit organization helping Alaska Native
and American Indian people residing in the Cook Inlet region of
Southcentral Alaska to reach their full potential. As one of the
nation’s culturally responsive social-service organizations, It
serves more than 14,000 people annually through a range of support
services, including education, employment and training services,
workforce development, family preservation, and support for
individuals recovering from addiction and substance abuse.
"Zetta DataProtect for NetApp
gave us enterprise-class offsite backup and DR. Since it didn’t
require additional hardware, we were able to deploy it within hours,"
said Jerry Kung, director of IT, Cook Inlet Tribal Council. "It
also let us avoid purchasing another NetApp filer, SnapVault
software, and provisioning another data center just for offsite
backup – saving hundreds of thousands of dollars."
"Many small- and medium-sized
businesses struggle with the high costs associated with acquiring a
second NetApp filer, deploying expensive software, and configuring
secondary datacenters just to enable offsite backup and DR for their
NetApp environments," said Eric Slack, senior analyst,
Storage Switzerland. "Zetta.net DataProtect not only solves
that problem by providing a simple SaaS solution that doesn’t require
any additional hardware, but it opens new DR options by enabling IT
organizations to recover their NetApp data from the cloud to a wide
variety of other available hardware, not only NetApp filers."
