IBM Real-time Compression Software Version 4.1
Providing RACE function for compression appliance
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on February 14, 2013 at 2:49 pmAre storage requirements growing too fast? IBM Real-time Compression Software version 4.1 is designed to compress CIFS/NFS data up to 80% when used in conjunction with the Real-time Compression Appliance (2452 Model 780).
Version 4.1 introduces the following:
- Support for the Real-time Compression Appliance STN7800: takes advantage of the new STN7800 hardware, making use of Intel’s new Sandy-Bridge architecture. The software stack was tuned to use a higher number of cores and take advantage of larger CPU cache memory. This version adds support for Intel’s new 10GbE NICs for increased performance in 10GbE networks.
- Improved performance: introduces a change in the networking layer. This change enables the appliance to deliver throughput performance of more than 2GB/sec. Since this is a software change, existing users of STN6500 and STN6800 models can also gain throughput improvements.
- Simplified pricing: introduces new pricing by capping the number of terabytes per appliance to 50. Once this number is reached, the customer is free to compress as much data as they desire.
