SoftNAS Beta 2 Released

With SnapReplicate

SoftNAS, LLC announced the availability of SoftNAS Beta 2 for Early Adopter Program (EAP) customers.

Beta 2 is available as an automated update using the ‘Software Update’ feature of SoftNAS. It takes about 2 minutes for the update process.

It includes the addition of SnapReplicate, which supports replication between two SoftNAS systems for backup, failover and DR purposes.

Amazon EC2 users will appreciate the ability to use SnapReplicate to create fault-tolerant configurations across EC2 regions and availability zones.

VMware and Hyper-V customers can use SnapReplicate to create redundant SoftNAS nodes for off-site backup/recovery, DR and SoftNAS VM failover.

Customers may now replicate data between VMware, Hyper-V and Amazon EC2 platforms, providing cross-platform data and application portability between cloud and virtualization platforms. This capability enables DR, development/QA/production deployment options, and the ability for both legacy and web-based applications to ‘float’ between traditional premise-based data centers and public/private clouds.

SoftNAS and SnapReplicate make the hybrid cloud a reality with no additional development work required – just deploy applications with the data and go. With SoftNAS, you’re not locked into a computing platform.

The release also includes a built-in, full-featured trial extension for EAP users through the end of February (Beta 1 expires on November 1, 2013, to apply this latest update).

The Beta 2 code is delivered as an automatic download and update, which takes about two minutes to complete (no manual steps required). The update downloads and applies a 6.5MB update package to the existing Beta 1 installation, so no download/install is required for an existing Beta 1 installation.
