Altior AltraSTAR Hadoop Storage Accelerator and Optimizer Certified on CDH4
Cloudera Distribution Including Apache Hadoop Version 4
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on December 25, 2012 at 3:20 pmAltior Inc. announced that its AltraSTAR – Hadoop Storage Accelerator and Optimizer is certified on CDH4 (Cloudera, Inc.‘s Distribution Including Apache Hadoop Version 4), the standard platform for Hadoop in the enterprise.
AltraSTAR can reduce MapReduce job execution time and increase data node storage capacity, while simultaneously delivering increased I/O performance. By optimizing Altior’s CeDeFS filter layer software for the CDH4 application, AltraSTAR can reduce storage consumption; improve MapReduce job execution time; and has the potential to lower the three year Hadoop cluster cost.
CDH is the world’s most widely deployed distribution of Apache Hadoop in commercial and non-commercial environments. Today, more than half of the Fortune 50 companies run open source Apache Hadoop based on Cloudera. With tens of thousands of nodes in production, Cloudera is setting the standard for Apache Hadoop deployment in the enterprise. CDH4 is a 100% open source distribution that combines Apache Hadoop with other open source applications within the Hadoop stack to deliver enterprise features.
"Altior’s goal was to provide a solution for Hadoop Acceleration which can transparently integrate with Cloudera’s MapReduce technology. We are pleased with how straightforward the integration and certification on CDH4 was for our solution," said Robert J. Zecha , Altior VP of operations and engineering.
The Cloudera Certified Technology program, which Altior has joined, makes it simpler for Apache Hadoop technology buyers to purchase the cluster components and software applications to extract the most value from their data. Clusters that leverage CDH4 alongside Cloudera Certified Technologies such as, AltraSTAR operate with reduced risk and lower TCO. Cloudera Certified Technologies have been tested and validated to use supported APIs and to comply with Cloudera development guidelines for integration with Apache Hadoop.
"Building a cluster from the ground up to run an Apache Hadoop cluster can be challenging. There are numerous choices to be made at all levels of the stack, and making those choices can be very complicated. The Cloudera Certified Technology program is designed to make those choices easy and reliable," said Tim Stevens , VP of corporate and business development, Cloudera. "We’re committed to helping enterprises achieve the most from their Big Data initiatives, and we’re pleased that Altior Inc. has completed certification of AltraSTAR on CDH4."
