Google, Inc., Mountain View, CA, has been assigned a patent (8,327,220) developed by four co-inventors for a "data storage device with verify on write command."
The co-inventors are Albert T. Borchers, Santa Cruz, CA, Andrew T. Swing, Los Gatos, CA, Robert S. Sprinkle, San Jose, CA, and Jason W. Klaus, Brooklyn, NY.
The abstract of the patent published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office states: "A data storage device includes an interface that is configured to interface with a host, a command bus, multiple memory devices that are operably coupled to the command bus and a controller that is operably coupled to the interface and to the command bus. The controller is configured to receive a verify on write command from the host using the interface, write data to one of the memory devices, read the data from the memory device, calculate an error correction code for the data as the data is being read, verify the data was written correctly to the memory device using the error correction code and communicate results to the host using the interface."
The patent application was filed on Oct. 10, 2011 (13/269,985).
Storing and providing encryption key for storage
Google, Inc., Mountain View, CA, has been assigned a patent (8,295,490) developed by Travis McCoy, Fraser, CO, Timothy R. Steele, and Nicolas Zea, Seattle, WA, for a "method and system for storing and providing an encryption key for data storage."
The abstract of the patent published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office states: "Systems, methods, and machine-readable media for providing an encryption key to a user are provided. The system may include a key storage module, an interface module, and an authentication module. The key storage module may be configured to store an encryption key for a user on an encryption key server, wherein the encryption key is used with user data on a data storage server. The interface module may be configured to receive a request for the encryption key from a client machine associated with the user. The authentication module may be configured to authenticate the user, wherein the interface module may further be configured to transmit the encryption key to the client machine in response to authenticating the user."
The patent application was filed on Jan. 10, 2012 (13/347,637).
