Small Tree Supports HGST 4TB SATA HDDs

On GraniteSTOR and ST-RAIDs for video editing

Small Tree Communications, LLC., in Mac shared storage and networking, announced that its GraniteSTOR TITANIUM and ST-RAID lines of shared storage systems now support Hitachi’s new 4TB SATA drives.

As a result, media production professionals can achieve greater performance on video-editing projects.

According to Steve Modica, CTO at Small Tree, "the 4TB drives have provided a 33% increase in the already substantial number of streams the company’s TITANIUM and ST-RAID systems can handle."

"4TB drives are definitely a win for media space customers as these drives work exceptionally well with large size files," says Modica. "With Hitachi’s introduction of the 4TB drives, RAIDs will be built with 4k sectors enabled and Small Tree’s shared storage systems will simply migrate to a more efficient block size to deliver tremendous performance at a great price point."

GraniteSTOR TITANIUM products provide all-in-one Ethernet-based shared storage solutions for professional video editors requiring shared access to media files whether it’s in their home studio or on the road. The TITANIUM line configurations include 4-, 8- or 16 drive (2, 3 or 4TB drive) configurations and support editing software such as Final Cut Pro, Avid Media Composer, Adobe Creative Suite, while enabling Windows, Linux, Macintosh and Unix clients to share media files.

Small Tree’s GraniteSTOR ST-RAID II system presents performance over Ethernet networks while offering cost-efficiency.  Its low latency ensures there are no dropped frames in SD or HD. Available in 8-, 12- or 16-drive (2, 3 or 4TB drive) configurations, ST-RAID II also offers flexibility, as more storage can be added for system expansion.
