Into RLS and XLS libraries
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on November 12, 2012 at 3:10 pmQualstar Corporation announced that all models of its RLS and XLS tape libraries are available for shipment with LTO-6 drives.
LTO-6 tape drives will also be released for upgrades to Qualstar’s large installed base.
"This is great news for systems administrators battling to secure, protect and archive ever-growing masses of data, especially the explosion in unstructured big data," said Larry Firestone, president and CEO of Qualstar. "This new generation of Ultrium LTO tape technology in combination with our proven rack mount and enterprise tape libraries deliver the most reliable and cost-effective data protection and archival storage solutions on the market."
LTO-6 delivers 2.5TB native capacity per tape, and 6.25TB per tape with typical data compression, increases of 66% and 200% respectively, over the current generation. The drive’s data transfer rate performance also grew to 160MB/s to keep pace with overall system requirements.
RLS Rack Mount Libraries expand from 50 tape slots to over 470 slots in a single 19-inch rack to now store over 2.9PB of data. XLS Enterprise Libraries scale from 350 tape slots to more than 11,700 slots, yielding over 73PB of storage using the LTO-6 technology.
Qualstar will show LTO-6 drives its RLS and XLS Tape Librariesat IEEE’s annual supercomputing conference in Salt Lake City, UT, on Nov. 12 – 15, 2012.
Qualstar tape libraries are available through authorized resellers.
