Inktank
Storage
Inc.
the company providing support for the Ceph Distributed Storage
System has partnered with Citrix
Systems,
Inc.
to provide support for Ceph as a component of Citrix
CloudPlatform.
CloudPlatform is Citrix’s commercially supported cloud
orchestration system based on Apache
CloudStack
(incubating), an open-source cloud computing project into which Ceph
has been integrated. The integration enables Ceph to provide primary
block storage for Apache CloudStack and Citrix CloudPlatform.
Launching later this year, Apache CloudStack 4.0 will be
the first Apache release of CloudStack to integrate Ceph’s
distributed storage platform to provide scalable and flexible virtual
block storage for enterprises and developers.
Ceph’s architecture makes it scalable and, therefore, a
storage component for CloudStack and Citrix CloudPlatform which
provides virtually unlimited computing power for the world’s largest
cloud deployments. Ceph’s block storage system has been integrated
into both CloudStack and CloudPlatform, providing users with the
freedom and flexibility of a cloud-agnostic, open platform that
supports public, private, and hybrid clouds. Ceph delivers
compatibility and interoperability with most popular cloud standards,
including Amazon and OpenStack, through Ceph’s open API integration
and support for both platforms.
"Enterprises moving
mission-critical applications to the cloud need to know that the
infrastructure is capable of near-infinite scaling to store massive
data loads, and Ceph’s powerful storage platform provides that
functionality," said Peder Ulander, VP
of Product Marketing, Cloud Platforms Group at Citrix Systems.
"Citrix welcomes Ceph’s inclusion into
CloudStack and CloudPlatform, and we are pleased to partner with
Inktank to provide enterprise support for Ceph storage for all of our
CloudPlatform deployments."
Inktank also announced that it has agreed to join the
Apache Software Foundation as a bronze sponsor, further strengthening
Inktank’s and Ceph’s commitment to the Apache CloudStack community.
In addition, Inktank is one of the sponsors of the upcoming
CloudStack
Collaboration
Conference
in Las Vegas on November 30 to December 2. Inktank will be speaking
at the conference on the technical architecture and capabilities of
Ceph with Apache CloudStack.
"Inktank and Ceph
congratulate the Apache CloudStack team on building tremendous
momentum and excitement around its cloud computing platform, and we
are excited that the CloudStack community has chosen to integrate
Ceph in their upcoming release," said
Bryan Bogensberger, president and COO of Inktank. "We
look forward to expanding collaboration between the Apache CloudStack
and Ceph developer communities as we continue to solve the world’s
ever-growing cloud storage challenges."
"I developed the integration
between Ceph and CloudStack so that we can all use the powerful
features of Ceph in our own cloud environment. I’ve been using Ceph
for almost 3 years now, and I was really missing these kinds of
integrations. In the past 3 years Ceph has proven that it is going to
change the way we think about storage,"
said Wido den Hollander, developer of the integration between Ceph
and CloudStack.
The implementation itself
has been committed to the Apache CloudStack Git repository.
