This tool has more than 400,000 customers who owe their lost data to this program.

What started out as a computer forensics tool for police found a place as commercial data recovery software.

"We haven’t stopped working on it since," reflects GetData director and former forensic investigator John Hunter.

A draw card of Recover My Files its ability to scan and preview recovered files before purchase.

"There is no substitute for seeing, hearing or watching your files. Our customers know deleted files can be recovered and purchase with confidence," he said.

Recover My Files v5 boasts new video and music previews as well as sorting, listing and filtering features that make locating lost files a straight forward task.

One of the biggest challenges for GetData in this 10 year period has been dealing with ever increasing hard disk capacity. The average home PC now has 2TB drives and people are keeping more data than ever before. In early years the software focused primarily on the recovery of business documents such as Word and Excel. It quickly changed to digital photo collections, and then music and now home theatre systems mean many Recover My Files customers are looking to recover HD movie collections.

"To stay ahead of our competition we have had to continuously reinvent our data recovery technology and look to find ways for faster recovery of larger and larger files," said Hunter.

Another notable trend he says, is that many Recover My Files customers are recovering external USB hard disks. These devices are often purchased for backup but end up as the principal storage device. As many users will attest, external drives can inexplicably lose a drive letter or turn unallocated or RAW. They are also frequently accidentally formatted during well intentioned system maintenance.

For $70, Recover My Files is a data recovery software for user trying to claw back from data loss.
