Enables booting and file-level restore from de-dupe backup images.
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on September 6, 2012 at 3:04 pmBarracuda Networks Inc. launched Barracuda Backup release 5.0, featuring functionality with its new instant recovery via Barracuda LiveBoot for VMware.
This new capability, included at no additional charge to Barracuda Backup customers, allows administrators to boot a critical server if the primary storage for their VMware environment fails, reducing overall downtime.
Barracuda Backup is a business backup solution for mixed physical and virtual server environments. Barracuda LiveBoot for VMware enables a VM to be booted directly off the Barracuda Backup Server’s deduplicated backup storage live, getting businesses up and running again quickly. In addition to reducing overall downtime, Barracuda LiveBoot for VMware also provides customers a platform for testing and sandboxing their servers to validate software upgrades or changes.
"The move to virtualization has brought about significant management benefits not previously possible in the physical server world," said Guy Suter, GM for Barracuda Backup. "With our new ability to instantly boot from deduplicated backups and test restores to file level, Barracuda Backup offers unprecedented capabilities in data center continuity and DR previously unrealized in the world of tape backup."
Additional highlights
of this new Barracuda Backup release include:
- Granular Data Restore – It features a restore browser where administrators can either recover a whole server or selectively restore folders and individual files directly from a single pass, fully deduplicated backup store. The use of one deduplicated image to do both types of restores eliminates the need to install additional software or run separate backups for granular restore options, and it provides flexibility from an efficient backup method.
- Elastic Compute Resources – Integration with server storage in the customer’s VMware environment provides the customer with more flexibility on the compute resources they apply to recovered servers.
Barracuda Backup sets the industry standard for assured data storage and retrieval while minimizing data-storage costs and administration effort. It combines a plug-and-play appliance for onsite backups with cloud and private cloud disk-based replication to quickly and securely store data in multiple locations offsite.
