The abstract of the patent published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office states: "Described are techniques for performing automated data storage configuration. A plurality of I/O operations are received on a data path. The I/O operations are analyzed and analysis information is determined. In accordance with the analysis information, an application which issued the plurality of I/O operations is determined. One or more configuration options are determined which are customized in accordance with the application. A portion of data storage in a data storage system is configured for use by the application in accordance with the one or more configuration options."
